Two things drive gun culture in the US: (1) valuing property rights ahead of human life; and (2) taking a negative view of the rest of humanity (fear prevails over compassion). That is why the US will not follow the UK and Australia in relation to gun control - while they have a common heritage they have fundamentally different social and political cultures and values. -

VA shooting suspect was raised a JW! He mentions it on his Twitter account
by WingCommander inanyone in the usa following this morning's shooting "on-air" live tv will know what i'm talking about.
bryce williams (not real name, but on-air name) shot and killed 2 people on live television this morning in roanoke, va. he was wearing a go-pro camera, and uploaded his first-person video onto his social media accounts.
i've seen his twitter feed (before it was taken down), and not very far down he mentions being raised a jw.

The Rebel has summed up the reason why this debate is going nowhere, brilliantly - equating gun ownership to democracy - only the US's radical brand of Lockean liberalism results in this type of thinking - it is the ideological element that takes it beyond rational debate. Simon - if I were you I would stop wasting your time trying to reason with the pro-gun writers. Their ideology prevents them from engaging in a rational discourse.
I read an interesting article in the LA Times on why the US is a global superpower in mass shootings. It put forward four factors that when taken together sets the US apart: 1. gun ownership - at 88.8 guns per 100 people the US has by far the highest (Yemen is second with around 50 per 100); 2. the way the American dream creates frustration and a sense of failure by creating personal expectations that many are incapable of achieving; 3. the cult of celebrity at any price; and 4. the poor quality of mental healthcare.

cappytanto Wing Commander: "You me and FMF need to have a bourbon together someday." Maybe then you could discuss whose phallic symbol is bigger. Unnecessary loss of human life doesn't matter just so long as you can play with your toys. -

In the same way i can't understand how people believe the BS of the WBTS, I can't understand how people believe the BS of the US gun lobby. It is ideology of the worse sort and the raionalisations being put forward on this blog to justify not tightening gun control in the US are pathetic. For example:
Oogie: "In Ireland, where handguns are illegal, only the criminals have them. Citizens get shot by these criminals. Citizens who aren't allowed to legally own handguns to defend themselves."
Now Oogie - have you thought to compare murder rates between the US and Ireland? I did and it is 4.7 in the US compared to 1.2 in Ireland. It is 1.1 in Australia where strict gun controls were imposed after a mass shooting. This resutled in a sharp drop in the murder rate and eliminated mass shooting incidents. To those outside the US gun cult the answer is obvious and rational.

I tried to get my wife to watch it. She has been inactive for over a year but she wouldn't watch it or talk about it. She still needs time for the mental barriers to come down. The fact she still has a lot of family in I think makes it hard for her to go full apostate.
I thought it was pretty good and if she had watched it she would have been able to relate to a lot of what was said.

This makes me so cranky - I had a colleague hwo wa a Witness and he quit to go off and pioneer with his new JW wife and work three days a week. When I asked him why he would abvandon a well paid job to work part time in a low paid job and how could he raise a faimly in such circumstances he basically said he was following in his parents footsteps which surprise surprise involved living in council housing and milking the welfare system. This welfare dependence is core to the WBTS business model. Taxpayers subsidise the WBTS' free sales force through welfare. -

Have carts been abandoned in favour of old fashioned door-to-door witnessing?
by Frazzled UBM ini just noticed recently that the carts have gone from outside the local station and i have noticed witnesses on the streets going door to door again.
anyone else observed this?
have the r&f decided carts don't work?
